How many countries have abolished the death penalty?


According to Amnesty International 99 countries have already abolished the death penalty in 2015.


And according to Death Penalty Information Center, there are 98 countries that have abolished the death penalty. As well as a total of abolatonist and practice put together are 140.

  1. I wonder why there's a slight discrepancy in the number of countries that have abolished the death according to the two sources. It's encouraging that nearly 100 countries have abolished it. Have any countries that abolished the death penalty gone back to it? This year, due to a particularly grisly murder in Hungary I heard that the revival of the death penalty was being being considered, even though Hungary is in the EU and part of EU membership is the abolishment of the death penalty.
