Answer to my questions10

How does someone exactly wind up on death row?

When this question popped up in my head i was curious but also worried that this would be a hard question to do research on as each countries rules are differemt.

When i came across this site http://listverse.com/2010/08/01/10-crimes-of-men-on-death-row/, i was never so creeped out and happy for my life.
It showed that people that are put on death row are people who have either murdered or raped someone.
Death Penalty Information site also shows many synopsis and cases of people who were executed.

  1. The term "death row" is misleading because it gives people the image that prisoners are waiting in an orderly way to be put to death, one after the other. Actually, because every prisoner's case is different, some prisoners may not be put to death until 20 years after sentencing while others may be put to death much sooner. In 2010, in the States, it took an average of 15 years until a prisoner on death row could be put to death. An unexpected statistic is that almost 25% of the deaths on death row in the U.S. are due to natural causes. That means that for 25% of prisoners, their death sentence really meant "life in prison," but they spent that time in prison tormented that they would be killed at any time.

"Death row" can mean a physical place (a part of a prison where prisoners sentenced to death are housed) or it can be used metaphorically to refer to prisoners who have been given a death sentence. In the US there are certain cell blocks that are for death row convicts. See the film "Dead Man Walking" to see what the atmosphere on death row looks like. To get an idea of the time in the US when the electric chair was still being used, see "The Green Mile," with Tom Hanks.
