Answer to my question3

How often does the death penalty occure?

When coming up with this question i new that it was a very vaque question which has its pros and cons, pro because i can get alot of information on one topic, and con because i realized how often im going to have to cite all the sites im going to be researching on.
Because this is such a vaque question i decided to research how much it is occured in the United States just to get an estimate.
I also found this question extremely difficult to answer because of the numbers and percentage of the death row inmates by state, execution by region, as well as mental disabilities. So i decided to write about the number of death sentences per year from 1999 to the year 2014 in the United Sates. Looking at the graph you could see that the numbers slowly decrease from 226 to 73.
What i thought was the most interesting was how there were many death sentences in the year 1997 (226 ), and in the year 1998 there were 295 death sentences, but in 1999 it suddenly dropped to 279.

Answer to my Question 2

Who was the first person to die by the death penalty?

When this question first popped up in my head, i was suddenly very curious to find out who it was so researching this information was quite interesting.
On this site called Death Penalty Info, it showed that the first every death sentence was taken place way back in the 18th century B. C. He was sentenced to death for 25 differenct crimes which was taken place in in the Code of King Hammaurabi of Babylon (Iraq).
Many of the first methods of the death penalty were hanging, stoning, crucifixion, burning alive, and impalement.

I was worried that my research wasnt correct so i checked out another site called ProCon which also stated that the first death sentence took place in the Code of Hannaurabi.

Answer to my question 1

Which countries still perform the death penalty?

I have always had the image that mostly every country still use capital punishment, but I was very surprised to see on TheGaurdian, that most countries used to use capital punishment, but have recently been abolished.

The top 10 countries that still frequently perform the death penalty are China, Iran, Saudi Arabia,Iraq ,United States, Pakistan , Yemen, Korea (North), Vietnam, and Libya.

Answer to my questions

What is the difference between corporal punishment and capital punishment?

The word ‘corporal punishment’ comes from the Latin word meaning body. On the other hand, ‘capital punishment’ comes from the Latin word the head.

Corporal punishment is a type of physical punishment and it includes flogging, canning, mutilation, and branding. It is not only apply to criminals but to all offenders because it varies to a mild one to a harsh one. It could be applied to a child, to a prisoner, and to anyone who offensive.

Capital punishment is to execute to punish someone for committing a very serious crime. It can only be applied by a proper legal trial. So there are some countries that capital punishment does not exist.

Answer to my questions.

Is it hypocritical?

I think it is very controversy issue so I do not say what I say is the correct answer because it differs on one’s perspective.

However, I searched about it and found that about 70% says it is and 30% says it is not. This is a web questioner result. According to what I found, it seems that it is thought to be hypocritical in general.

Answer to my second question

Is the death penalty cheaper than keeping the criminal alive?

I only searched about japan because japan is well known for good treatments in prison.

All the expense needed in prison is paid with taxes and a criminal need about 1310 yen per day on average, including clothes and medical expenses. However, it does not include payment for the guards nor other expenses needed to put them in prison and to keep them in prison. In addition, they actually get paid per hour, about 4215 yen on average a month per a criminal. This is all supplied by taxes.

It is true in prisons, criminals have to work and it’s a very hard work that they are told to do in the prison, they still get good treatment.

On the other hand, condemned criminals do not have to work at all and get a single room. They get the same treatment as the other criminals and wait for the day of execution to come. The Japanese government does not publish how much it needs to perform execution. Though there are some researches about it based on what the government stated and looking at what American government is publishing about death penalty.

However, it seems that execution cost is very high. It’s higher than keeping one criminal that is to be imprisoned for life.

Answer to my first question.

Is death penalty not only applied to murderers but also rapists and thieves?

In Japan.

Death penalty is of course applied to murder.

Rapists do not get death penalty unless they kill the person on purpose.

If they didn't kill the victim on purpose ( such a case when the victim suicide ) they do not get death penalty, the worst punishment they get is imprisonment for life.

If the victim didn’t even get hurt physically, they only get 3 years to 30 years in prison.

About thieves.

If the thief hurt the victim, he (or she) gets lifelong or more than 6 years in prison.

If the victim is murdered, he (or she) gets death penalty or imprisonment for life.
