Results of the Domestic Survey

In our group we made two surveys, International and domestic.
I made the domestic survey so i would like to analyze my results.

First of all, i would like to thank all of you who supported our research and answered to our survey. 31 people have answered to my survey and  thanks to those people, we got some interesting results.

Our first question was gender which most of them were female.
Second was the age.Although most of them were 19, the youngest was 15 and the oldest was 20.
Our third one was if they were for or against death penalty.22 out of 31 were For death penalty which was a surprise to me.
Our fourth question was which penalty should a murder deserve if you were the victim's family, imprisonment, death penalty, or a fine.
Although many people were for death penalty, there were not much difference with imprisonment and death penalty. In the comment box there were 3 comments written such as using them as a human testing.
The fifth question was should death penalty be done in all countries and this had no difference.(Yes:16 No:15)
Our sixth question was If those who didn't want death penalty to be done in all countries are you for abolishing the death penalty. It was interesting how even though many people didn't want it in every country, most of them didn't want it to be abolished.
(Yes:7 No:11)
Our next one was what is the most serious sin above and it was terrorism.
And the  most cruel way to do death penalty was using gas.
In some comments, there were drowning in the water or burying in the ground.
Our last question was are you for or against executing in public and most of them were against it.

Through this survey, I have leaned that many people were FOR the death penalty and i was quite surprised. Our group was for the death penalty at first, but as we searched about it and got to know about it, our thoughts have changed. Since there is no opportunity to know about death penalty, many people do not know about it and if they do, I'm sure many people will look it in a different point of view.
From this survey, i found out that many people really do not know about death penalty and i hope taking this survey will lead people to know and get curious about death penalty.
Thank you for those who helped our research and I've learned that taking a survey is the best way to get to know the real opinions accurate and fast.
Thank you
Mana

Answer to my question 2

Which country has the highest number of people sentenced to death?

According to the amnesty international research, the most highest number getting killed by death penalty was China.
This is not just beacuse of the number of people in China, since it is estimated that the number of the people who were executed in China was about a thousand more than that of the Sum of all country excluding China.

China, Iran, Iraq, SoudiArab, America has a high number of execution , but it is clear that China is the highest.

Answer to my question 1

How many people have died from the death penalty?

It is quite impossible to know the exact number of the people who were executed.
This is because of the policy in China where the infomation of death penalty is not revealed. It is estimated that at least 2,466 people were killed.
However, the number does not count the number in China.

I was quite shocked that the number could not be clear and that there were countries that would not reveal how many people have been executed even though it is a serious probem. The people in their country should at least know the informaton and consider the fact that there are alot of people being executed.

The number of people varies each year but in 2014 3 people were executed in Japan.

I've got the information from a site called Amnesty International, which is a NGO that supports human rights and abolishing death penalty.
And another site where it covers the data from 1945 to 2015.

Analyzing the results on the domestic survey

We made a two surveys in class to get more insight on what some people think about our topic. I would like to write about the results on the domestic survey.

The results showed that we received 18 answers on the survey.

Firstly, we asked the question "Do you believe in the death penalty?"
40% of the people responded to NOT supporting the death penalty, while the remaining 60% said YES.

The next question was "What is your nationality? Age? Gender? Where do you currently reside?"
More than half of the participants answered saying they were Japanese, with one British and three Japanese/American which shows that most of the people who took the survey were probably most of our friends. I was not surprised to see that most of the people who took our surveys were around the ages from 19-32.As for gender, out of 18 people only four were male and the rest all female. Two people responded that they were from the US while the rest were from Japan.

The third question was "Does execution occur in the country you are currently residing in?"
Because most of the people who answered our survey were from Japan, it was not a surprise to see that 90% of the people answered YES to this question.

Next question was "How would you rate the seriousness of the crimes?"
The crime with the most votes to being the worst was "Murder by violence." "Rape" and "Poisoning" were second in place.  "Arson" and "Bombing" were third and lastly "Theft" and "Espionage"

The fifth question was "What do you think is the most cruel form of execution?"
Two people skipped this question only leaving 16 people to answer that the most cruel form of execution was "Stoning." secondly "Gas chamber" third was "Hanging" then "Electrocution"

The next question was quite difficult. "Do you know how many people are executed in your country every year?" 60% percent answered saying that they did not know.

the seventh question was "Should criminals be informed about the data of their execution?"
3 people skipped this question so the remaining 9 answered to YES and 6 people answered to NO.
I wanted to know why some people answered to NO, which made me wish i made a "Comment" box at the end of this question.

"Would you use something that was made for a prisoner?" Was the eighth question.
It was very interesting to see that the results were half and half. 50% answered YES while 50% answered NO.

This was my first time to make a survey on a very serious topic, so at first it was hard to make the survey not seem tacky and unprofessional. In the end it was interesting to see the results and to get a general idea of what other people think on this topic. It made me want to experiment with another survey on different topics.

If you have not taken our survey yet, please feel free to!

Feedback on our NGO

We did a project where we talked / advertised about our NGO in a presentation the other day and got feedback from everyone in class.
Good Points
I was surprised to see how most of the feedback was more positive than I was expecting it to be. Because "Death Penalty" is a dark and heavy topic, I was worried that our NGO would have a scary, creep, and dark image but I was very happy to see that some people said  although it was a heavy topic they were able to understand the presentation.
One of the mail goals of our NGO is to educate people in the death penalty in order to change their minds, so I was also glad to see that the majority said they were surprised about what really goes on in the death penalty.
We received one question on the survey, whether we showed the domestic survey or not. I do believe we showed both the surveys, but it may have seemed like we did not show it because we did not cut and paste both the Japanese survey and the domestic survey on paper.
Bad points
We got 1 (1=very poor) on the last question if we went the extra mile in making a website, or a social networking site.
I do believe our NGO would have looked a lot more realistic and believable if we made our own temporary NGO site.

Thank you for the feedback!

Answer to my questions10

How does someone exactly wind up on death row?

When this question popped up in my head i was curious but also worried that this would be a hard question to do research on as each countries rules are differemt.

When i came across this site http://listverse.com/2010/08/01/10-crimes-of-men-on-death-row/, i was never so creeped out and happy for my life.
It showed that people that are put on death row are people who have either murdered or raped someone.
Death Penalty Information site also shows many synopsis and cases of people who were executed.

Answer to my question9

What is the most painful way someone is executed?

This question is almost a sequal to my other question "What forms of exection are still performed today".
As i mentioned in one of my previous posts, I wrote about how burning, boiling, stoning, and the gas chamber are still being performed throughout the world. I believe these forms of execution are the most painful because for one,
1.Burning,
In some countries, they do not only put the person on fire from a singe match, but some countries pour scorching hot water or oil down someones throat.
2. Boiling.
Boiling is another very barbaric way of execution as they do not put the prisoners to " sleep" before they dose them in hot boiling water or oil.
3.Stoning.
Stoning is a slow and painful way of execution. For the men they bury them waist deep into the ground and for women, they bury them from the neck down. If the prisoners are able to escape while they are being stoned, it is said that they may let the prisoner live. Because they put the man waist deep into the ground and the women from neck deep into the ground, it really made me thnk how sexist! Because it would be alot easier to escape from waist deep in the ground than from neck deep.

4.Gas Chamber.
This may sound like an easy way to die, but believe it or not, it is one of the painful forms of execution. A Poisonous gas usually called hydrogen cyanide, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.

Other forms of exection that are more brutal and extremely barbaric are also found on this site.
